Abstract: Over the last few years, we have developed a resonance-based approach to inverse problems in which resonant contrast agents are used to amplify weak signatures of the medium and extract internal parameters from remote measurements. This strategy has already been applied in several imaging modalities, including acoustics, optics, and photo-acoustics.
In this talk, we discuss its extension to elastography. The specific feature of the elastic setting is that the scattered field naturally splits into its P- and S-components, and this additional structure can be exploited in the reconstruction process. In particular, we explain how resonance information can be used to recover the mass density from elastic far-field data, by working with the P- or S-parts of the measurements. We also describe how the same approach may provide a route toward recovering the Lamé parameters, in analogy with the scalar case and through the use of resonance shifts and effective-medium approximations.
