Title: On the collision of Lamb dipoles: Traveling waves and stability
Language: English
Time & Venue: 2026.10.12 13:30-14:30 科技综合楼(蓝白楼)Z301
Abstract: The Lamb dipole is a classical traveling-wave solution of the two-dimensional incompressible Euler equations, consisting of a pair of counter-rotating vortices. This talk introduces the structure and translation of a single Lamb dipole and discusses its stability as a starting point for the study of coherent vortex motion. We explain the role of the traveling-wave description and the questions that arise when several dipoles are present. The emphasis is on the background needed to understand how initially well-separated dipoles may translate, deform, and interact.
