Abstract: This talk focuses on the collision of Lamb dipoles. Starting from initially well-separated dipoles, we discuss the interplay between translation, deformation, and mutual interaction during their evolution. A central question is the extent to which the dynamics can be described through the motion of coherent dipolar structures. We examine what such a description captures, how changes in the shapes of the dipoles enter the analysis, and which aspects of the collision require a fuller account of the underlying fluid motion. The discussion connects single-dipole stability with the dynamics of interacting dipolar structures.
